WHAT IT DOES
Rheinmetall is Germany's largest defense manufacturer. It builds the unglamorous backbone of land warfare: artillery shells and the powder that fires them, tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, military trucks, air-defense systems that shoot down drones, and — the transatlantic tie — fuselage sections for the F-35 fighter.
HOW IT MAKES MONEY
Governments sign multi-year contracts for vehicles, ammunition, and maintenance, often framework agreements that guarantee demand for years. Ammunition is the quiet profit engine: once an army standardizes on your shell and your powder, it keeps reordering — and reordering accelerates in wartime.
WHY WE TRACK IT
Our defense thesis says Europe is entering a rearmament decade. Rheinmetall is the cleanest single expression of that claim: when Germany reverses seventy years of restraint, exempts defense from its constitutional debt brake, and NATO pledges dramatically higher spending, the money lands disproportionately in this order book.
THE SIMPLE THESIS
The Ukraine war taught Europe that modern land war is arithmetic — shells fired per day — and that Europe couldn't do the arithmetic. Rheinmetall is being paid, with government-underwritten demand, to build the capacity back. The business case is closer to a utility buildout than a cyclical defense stock; the risk is that the whole thesis is political.
