Red Cardinal Snapshot
WHAT IT DOES
RTX is really two companies under one ticker: Raytheon, which builds air-defense systems and the missiles that arm the Western world — Patriot, NASAMS, AMRAAM, Stinger — and a commercial-aerospace half (Pratt & Whitney jet engines, Collins Aerospace components) that lives and dies with the airline cycle.
HOW IT MAKES MONEY
Defense revenue comes from government contracts — selling the systems, then the interceptors those systems fire, then decades of upgrades and sustainment. Commercial aero works like razors and blades: engines and parts sold near cost, profit earned over thirty years of maintenance visits.
WHY WE TRACK IT
Air defense is the single clearest demand signal of the rearmament decade. Every Patriot battery Europe orders, every AMRAAM restock, every allied co-production deal runs through this company — its backlog is the restocking thesis written down in contract form.
THE SIMPLE THESIS
Ukraine turned air defense from a budget line into the scarcest product in the Western arsenal. RTX owns the franchise — the question is whether a company that is half jet-engine maker can scale missile production fast enough to convert a decade of demand before the window narrows.
